when penguins attack!

Tuesday, June 26th, 2007

well, okay, so penguins didn’t exactly attack, but i bet they could if they wanted to.

however, i do have news about penguins: (true from CNN!) they found giant penguin fossils in Peru. no joke, these penguins were about six-feet tall. the next cloesest living penguin to that size are the King penguin about three-feet tall in size. we’re talking Lebron James sized penguins… and not only were these penguins gigantic - 6-7 ft. tall or more - but they also lived during one of the warmest times in the earth’s history.

pretty bizzare stuff. can you imagine if you were a penguin, and all of a sudden you found out your ancestors were sunbathing, tropical giants? it would sort of be like a “Luke I am your father” moment. even i, being the lover of all things penguin that i am, am a little intimidated by the idea of a penguin with a foot-long beak with strong well-developed jaw muscles. though it would totally rock to have an army of giant penguins.

for whatever reason, and not complaining, it seems that penguins are the “in” animal of the year. look at “happy feet,” “march of the penguins,” and now the more recent film “surf’s up”. and now they’re even putting penguins in the headlines of the newspapers! kind of ironic, but perhaps “Surf’s Up” has some truth to it after all. before this article even came out they were thinking, sunbathing, giant, surfing penguins. sorry cnn and new york times, sony pictures animation beat you to the punch.
i really have to wonder what’s next though as far as penguin films, we’ve done dancing and singing, true documentary, now surfing and sunbathing… perhaps organized crime, or a mission impossible theme is next around the corner. or maybe little mumble will grow up and feel his life is now worthless, despite the wonderful family he has, and will go to the edge of an iceberg to jump into the icy waters, only to have an angelic penguin show him what life would have been like had he never been born and gone to find where the fish were going… but, i think that’s already been done.

either way, i’m leaving this topic open to you, the reader, now, in the form of a little contest.

CONTEST: leave a comment with your BEST penguin film idea. the winner will be featured in the “Not News Blog” section of the Pulse Rail next issue.

hey, it’s not much, i know, but why not take your chances at your own five minutes of fame? and think about it, you can have another little newspaper clipping to hang up on your office wall.

resistance is futile

Tuesday, June 12th, 2007

welcome to the first post on the first ever BG not news blog.

with this being the first post, it feels like it’s time for a disclaimer.

DISCLAIMER: as stated this is the not news blog. therefore all material is probably not news. meaning it could be satirical, sarcastic, opinionated, or just plain random information. it might be true or it may possibly be made up at 2:00 in the morning while the writer was watching infomercials. who knows. (the magic bullet infomercial is the best just for the record).

just think of us like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re going to get… and in the end, it might not even be chocolate anyways.

bon appetite.
